Tweet-a-watt
LIVE DATA STREAMING
In a home where energy conservation is the primary concern, it is important to have a method of measuring energy usage throughout the house. Using the hardware inside Kill-a-Watt energy measuring outlets and XBee wireless modems, the electrical team has managed to post hourly updates of the energy used by an outlet via Twitter. In the next steps of this project, the team will find ways to obtain data from multiple outlets to communicate their energy usage and graphically represent this usage in an easily understandable form. Ideally, when the electrical systems of the house are created, this system will be implemented behind the scene, and the data will be able to be seen on the iPhone/iPad application. This will allow users to easily view their hourly energy usage and get an estimate for their monthly energy bill.
