Our History

The Queen’s Solar Design Team was formerly the Queen’s Solar Vehicle Team (QSVT). Established in 1988, QSVT was one of the original Canadian Solar Vehicle teams. We designed and built 11 solar vehicles, setting numerous records and acquiring many accolades.

Some of our most notable achievements include:
- Setting the Guinness world record for the longest journey in a solar vehicle in 2000
- Finishing 1st place in the North American Solar Challenge and the World Solar Challenge for two-seater vehicles in 2003

In addition to technical innovation and increasing the awareness of the benefits of solar power, QSVT created Solar Quest: an educational initiative for local schools that had elementary and high school students design and build their own solar cars.

LOOKING TO THE FUTURE
We are confident that the technical knowledge and experiences we have gained building solar vehicles provides us with a competitive advantage as we seek to fulfill our new mission of building the most energy efficient and innovative home. Integrating past knowledge along with new technological advancements, we are eager to compete alongside the best and brightest at the next Solar Decathlon in 2013.
