And the winner is… NatuReal!
After attending the Home Sweet Home Awards Gala, it was announced that the Solar Design Team’s submission (NatuReal Home) placed first in the Home Sweet Home Student Challenge, a provincial sustainable home design competition.
The Vision:
The NatuReal Home is designed by nature. It is composed wholly of renewable and recycled materials. It is a home that also takes advantage of the surrounding environment through its passive solar design, natural ventilation system, and heating system which combines both geothermal energy and local renewable bio-mass. The NatuReal Home is designed to make the occupants feel connected to the landscape and environment surrounding them. The NatuReal Home helps to make each inhabitant feel “at home” with nature.
Adrian Brett, Architectural Manager says: “We wanted to design a home that was beautiful, very simplistic, and required very low energy input. We wanted to go back to that 1800s rustic feel by using rustic materials.”
A huge congratulations to Adrian, Dayna, Brandon and Laura for winning the first place award (including $1,000 of cash each) and displaying the talent of the Queen’s Solar Design Team!
