Last month we were interviewed by Emma Taylor, a Kingston This Week reporter. The article provides a synopsis of our team’s progress thus far:


The bright lights at Queen’s have made a U-turn in the bid to harness the sun: they’ve gone from designing solar cars to solar homes. The Queen’s Solar Design Team made it to the top 25 in a bid to compete in a Solar Decathlon held in the U.S. The change in direction comes after 22 years of designing solar cars. The team decided it needed to move in a more practical direction. Solar cars had never really taken off as first envisioned, but the possibilities for solar homes was promising.


“A lot of the funding for solar car races is drying up because people aren’t seeing the practical application of it. For homes, the technology is really applicable because it can power a full home,” says Sean Seemann, the mechanical systems manager. Click here to read more.
